City architecture is where I have found the biggest benefit from having such a wide view available. I can stand on a narrow sidewalk and still fit an entire building into the frame, or capture the atmosphere of a busy street without losing the surrounding details. The zoom range also gives me more control over composition, so I can adjust framing without constantly changing my position.
One thing I appreciate is how easy the lens is to pack for a day of photography. It retracts when not in use, taking up less room in my bag than I expected for a lens covering such a broad focal range. The weight feels manageable on my Nikon Z camera, and I can walk around for hours without feeling as burdened as I would with some larger professional lenses.
Sharpness has been pleasing across the frame, particularly when photographing buildings, mountain views, and other scenes with plenty of fine detail. Straight lines remain well controlled for architectural work, and any distortion that does appear can be corrected easily in my usual editing software. Colors look natural, and contrast holds up nicely in outdoor scenes with a mix of sunlight and shadow.
The constant f/4 aperture makes exposure predictable as I zoom, which is useful when recording video or moving between different compositions. For dim interiors and evening photography, I sometimes need to raise the ISO or use a tripod, but that is a reasonable trade-off for the portability and range. The focusing system responds quickly for landscapes, travel scenes, and everyday subjects, while the manual focus ring gives me precise control when I want to make small adjustments.
During trips, I prefer carrying fewer lenses, and the versatility here makes that approach much easier. From tight streets and indoor spaces to expansive scenery, I can handle a wide variety of situations without constantly stopping to swap gear. The retractable design takes a little getting used to, but it soon becomes second nature. For Nikon Z users who enjoy travel, architecture, or landscape photography, it is a practical and capable lens that has made my outings simpler and more enjoyable.
