Portrait sessions have been much more enjoyable since I added this lens to my Sony kit. The zoom range gives me room to frame a subject closely or pull back a little without constantly changing my position. I appreciate having an f/2.8 aperture throughout the range, especially for indoor portraits and evening events where the light isn't always ideal. The results have a pleasing separation between the subject and the background, giving my photos a polished look without much extra effort.
Handling has been a pleasant surprise for a lens in this category. It feels solid in my hands, and the balance on my camera body is comfortable enough for extended photo sessions. The shorter reach compared with a traditional 70-200mm lens has not bothered me much, and I find the reduced size convenient when packing my gear for a day out. Zooming between focal lengths is easy, and the controls feel well suited to regular use.
Focus acquisition is quick and dependable when photographing people in motion, pets, and candid moments. I have also appreciated the VC stabilization when shooting handheld at slower shutter speeds, particularly when the light starts fading. For video clips, the lens gives me useful framing options without having to move around as much, and the results look consistent when switching between subjects at different distances. It has become a practical choice for both planned portraits and spontaneous moments.
What stands out most is how often I reach for it instead of switching between multiple lenses. The focal range covers plenty of everyday situations, while the bright aperture gives me creative flexibility for portraits, events, and indoor photography. It still has some weight, as expected for a fast telephoto zoom, but the balance of performance, portability, and versatility makes it easy to justify keeping in my bag. I am very pleased with how it has fit into my photography routine.
